The Arts and Humanities Research Division (AHRD) of the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER) is organizing A Panel on “Teaching and Researching Ancient Philosophy in the Contemporary World”, 3-6 January 2018, Athens, Greece as part of the 5th Annual International Conference on Humanities & Arts in a Global World sponsored by the Athens Journal of Humanities & Arts. 

The aim of the panel is to bring together academics and researchers from all areas of Philosophy, Education and Humanities.

Ancient Philosophy is one of the fundamental basis of our culture. Over twenty five hundred years ago some people began to use their reasoning in a different way so as to try to discover the way nature works and how to live their lives in order to find happiness and create a better society. All those questions and the very same way of thinking are still present in our contemporary world, but societies and technology have changed so much and so quickly that those ancient thoughts could seem strange and remote to our current mentality. Nevertheless, the first philosophers can help us understand several aspects of our lives, so they deserve to be taught and studied. The aim of the Panel is to help participants enhance their way of imparting knowledge by exchanging ideas about different approaches in teaching and researching Ancient Philosophy in our globalised world and multicultural societies.

Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized: A Greek night of entertainment with dinner, a special one-day cruise to selected Greek islands, an archaeological tour of Athens and a one-day visit to Delphi.
