Call For Papers

The Psychology Unit of ATINER organizes A Stream on “Psychology of Art” as part of the 12th Annual International Conference on Psychology, 28-31 May 2018, Athens, Greece  sponsored by the Athens Journal of Social Sciences.

This stream proposal is on the psychology of art. This is an interdisciplinary scientific field that studies the production of art, its use and its creation from multifaceted standpoints. It studies which are the characteristics of an art piece making it aesthetically pleasant from perceptual, psychological and biological points of view. For example, it studies why people prefer some shapes over others; why they prefer some colours and some colour contrast over others, or how people emotively react different to different artworks. Studies in psychology of art also extend to personality characteristics (e.g. Dark Triad traits, empathy). It studies how different personality traits relate to preferences for artworks; how different ages or different levels of expertise relate to preferences for artworks. This stream is open to studies that on psychology of art from any viewpoints as well as to studies pertaining aesthetic experiences in general in response to perceiving art pieces. You may participate as presenter of one paper, chair or/and organizer of a session, or observer.

Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized: A pragmatic symposium (as organized in Ancient Athens but fine tuned to synchronous ethics), a special one-day educational island tour, a Mycanae and island of Poros visit, an Athens educational walking tour, an one-day visit to Delphi and an ancient Corinth and Cape Sounion visit.
