Call For Papers

The Natural & Formal Sciences Division of ATINER organizes a Stream on Biogeochemistry as part of the 5thAnnual International Conference on Geology & Earth Science, 4-7 June 2018, Athens, Greece sponsored by the Athens Journal of Sciences.

“Isotopic Biogeochemistry of Rivers, Lakes and Watersheds: From the source to the estuary”– One of the major challenges of current research on the functioning of the continental ecosphere is the development of approaches integrating source and process information on local, landscape, regional and global scales. The isotopic composition of a substance reflects often its sources and biogeochemical history.

This session will focus on the use of this integrating isotopic tool together with biological, chemical and hydrological measurements to gain novel insights on:

  • Nutrient cycling processes (C, N, H, S, P) and their interactions
  • Identification and tracing of non point source pollutants
  • Impact of anthropogenic point source pollutants on aquatic ecosystems
  • Greenhouse gas emissions (N2O, CH4, …)

We welcome innovative contributions on analytical developments, experimental studies (laboratory, mesocosm field studies at different scales) and modelling approaches. You may participate as presenter of one paper, chair or/and organizer of a session, or observer.

Fee structure information is available on https://www.atiner.gr/2018fees.

Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized: A pragmatic symposium (as organized in Ancient Athens but fine tuned to synchronous ethics), a special one-day educational island tour, a Mycanae and island of Poros visit, an Athens educational walking tour, an one-day visit to Delphi and an ancient Corinth and Cape Sounion visit.
